I enjoyed the Ruby Brooch & Sapphire Brooch books much more than this one, which felt a little sloppy to me. The plot was entertaining enough, and Logan's imagination with the MacKlenna family tree is admirable - I enjoy how she interweaves her cast of characters.But her writing style was slightly irritating: every analogy was so extreme (which made them less effective and believable as the story wound on); there were grammatical errors; and characters' physical descriptions changed from page to page. (Example: Zoey's eye color was steel-blue, then suddenly mink-brown. Minor issues, but the author's lack of attention to detail annoyed me.)More than that, I just couldn't get behind the Kenzie character. She's supposed to be this hysterical comedian, but I didn't find her jokes funny, even though everyone she meets on the page thinks she's the funniest person they've ever met. I love jokes, but hers were all groaners.Another reviewer said that she felt Logan did a rush job to meet a deadline. Unfortunately, I had the same impression, even though I'm a fan of her earlier books. I'll still give the Broken Brooch & Diamond Brooch a chance, but I was disappointed in this rendition. Very disappointing. I just didn't buy much at all in this one. I've loved the other books in the series but not this one.Without giving anything away I just didn't like Kenzie. She jumped between being furious at David to wanting to jump in bed with him. She did this multiple times throughout the book. She also wanted to jump in bed with Cav. I NEVER felt she actually loved David. As for David, he was clearly obsessed with Kenzie but didn't buy that he loved her. The author over and over told us that the plan was so well thought out but it had HUGE holes in it. David did things that went against things he said earlier and were simply STUPID. The ending was so far fetched and UNROMANTIC that it just made me happy the book was finally over.
